Navratri Dandiya Tradition
Celebrating the colourful heritage of Garba & Dandiya Raas
History About Dandiya Sticks
Dandiya represents the symbolic battle between Goddess Durga and the demon Mahishasura and is often called the Sword Dance.
During the dance dancers strike decorated sticks rhythmically while moving in circular formations to the beats of dhol, dholak and tabla.
The sticks represent the swords of Goddess Durga. Women wear colourful choli, ghagra and bandhani dupattas while men wear turbans and traditional attire.
Garba is performed before Aarti during Navratri while Dandiya Raas follows as celebration.
Today Dandiya has spread from Gujarat to festivals around the world.
